Funbio will be responsible for carrying out the goals of the “Prioritization of Biodiversity in the Private Sector” project to promote conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity by major businesses, in principle as well as practice.
Toward this end, Funbio will identify production landscapes that impact biodiversity and thus can play an important role in its conservation. Five landscape-based subprojects with private sector partners will be implemented during the project. These partnerships will be guided by strategies based on socioeconomic and environmental analyses of the landscape. Funbio will also create and manage a Conservation Opportunities Fund to finance subprojects for large-scale production landscapes.
These initiatives will be supported by a knowledge base of information on leading economic sectors, local businesses, technical innovation and best practices.
The program will also strengthen Funbio’s own ability to gather and disseminate information relevant to biodiversity.
