Sustainable Dialogues is a program of focused meetings created by Funbio to foster involvement of the private sector in biodiversity conservation. Business, environmental, academic and government leaders attend a series of meetings, each on a different conservation-related topic, where they are able to discuss the relevant concerns of business, government and the society in general.
With financial backing from Alcoa, five topics have been covered since 2006: How does Biodiversity Add Value to your Business; Biodiversity and Stakeholder Engagement; Climate Change and Biodiversity; Beyond Offset: How to Compensate Impact and Create Positive Results for Biodiversity; and Environmental Services: Risks and Opportunities for your Business.
Funbio invites participants who are interested and active in areas related to each topic. The program has attracted very distinguished participants of executives and managers from sustainability departments of large companies and from the financial sector, government representatives, community leaders, environmentalists, academics and the press.
Inviting these actors to participate in the meetings is one way that Funbio mobilizes them around the idea that it is necessary to change the status quo in Brazil and that sustainability can take on new meaning for business: it can be the differential to remaining competitive. This context brings added motivation to develop new products and services connected with conservation of natural resources.
The Sustainable Dialogues program strives to help the business world meet this challenge by tracking the evolution of socio-environmental innovation in Brazil and the world, and by facilitating meaningful conversation about the practical concerns of sustainability and business.
