The purpose of FOCUS (Financing and Opportunities for Conservation and Sustainable Use) Brazil Vision is to provide input that will foster new production models in agribusiness (sugar cane, soy, cattle, fibers) and energy, through recommendations and priority actions that add value to businesses, society and the environment. Apart from carrying out economic, ecological and social diagnoses of these sectors, the program also seeks to promote the identification of business opportunities capable of generating profits without socio-environmental liabilities.
The size of the occupied areas, the socio-environmental impacts generated, and the potential damage to the biodiversity, are all reasons for selecting these sectors of agribusiness as economic vectors capable of prompting a review of the productive models in Brazil and reversing the current risks and environmental threat. To further understand the current occupation of the Brazilian territory and its implications for the biodiversity, FOCUS | Brazil Vision proposes to undertake an integrated study, through an analysis of certain sectors within the industry as well as an inter-sector view of the economic, social and environmental aspects of these sectors of agribusiness in Brazil.
The relevance of FOCUS in relation to other socio-environmental studies is its emphasis on the elaboration of recommendations and strategic action proposals targeted at certain key players in the Brazilian economy. As a result, it is expected that these proposals will lead to the increasing adoption of better business practices which, in the short and medium terms, will result in a more sustainable production paradigm that is more sustainable for the biodiversity and is also more profitable for companies.
This program is funded by Instituto Arapyaú de Educação e Desenvolvimento Sustentável, an organization that focuses on the future of education and sustainable development.
