EcoFunds is a program coordinated by Funbio in partnership with nine environmental funds of RedLAC. It aims to organize data on conservation investments in the Andes-Amazon region and make it will be available to the public on the Internet.
Biodiversity conservation and sustainable development have become priorities for international programs and their donors. While there has been a rise in funding for environmental protection in recent years, the need for protection of natural resources has also grown significantly. This need is extremely pressing in the Andes-Amazon region.
While some programs to coordinate different investments in specific protected areas do exist, there is no up-to-date system to track conservation investments across the region. The lack of such an integrated system of information on investments in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in this region is a hindrance to new investments by financial organizations and implementors.
A database that tracks important programs, investments and priority conservation needs would facilitate more efficient allocation of funding. In addition, it would improve communication among actors and thus reduce duplicate efforts.
The portal is available on www.redlac.org/ecofunds
