Atlantic Forest Fund
Pilot Project

Before its launch, a pilot operation of the FMA received funds from two different sources. Around R$3.6 million was invested on the purchase of equipment and vehicles, construction works, and hiring of consultancy services for over 20 conservation units.

In that same month, Funbio signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the state government of Rio de Janeiro (SEA-RJ and the State Environmental Institute – INEA) to manage resources resulting from a Letter of Commitment (n.11/2007), streamlining the application of part of the environmental compensations provided by Companhia Siderúrgica do Atlântico (Atlantic Steel Company – CSA) relating to environmental licenses FE011733 and FE11695 issued by Feema. The Fund received R$3.1 million to execute a work plan approved by the Environmental Compensation Chamber of the state of Rio de Janeiro (CCA/RJ) to support FMA Pilot Projects.

In 2008, Funbio received nearly R$500 thousand from the Ministry of the Environment of Germany, through the KfW Development Bank, which donated funds for full-protection CUs in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
